Spruce Haven Farm Anaerobic Digester Is Operational
New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Grant Program
Spruce Haven Farm

The anaerobic digester located at Spruce Haven Farm dairy, owned and operated by Doug Young, began producing biogas in early September 2014.  By October 1st, 2014, the digester had been brought up to an operating temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit, enabling the  anaerobic digestion of manure from the 3,360 animal herd to create  enough biogas to operate a Combined Heat and Power (CHG) system capable of producing 502kW.  The system is currently running at approximately 95% capacity, producing 480kW of renewable electricity.

The facility was designed and constructed with oversight by Larsen Engineer’s staff.  The project is funded through a NYSERDA grant program. Pictured below is the inflatable flexible membrane cover which collects the biogas produced in the 1.5 million gallon lined lagoon.  To discuss the feasibility of an aerobic digester at your farm or facility please contact.
