Is Green Engineering The Future?

Comments (0) Blog, consulting engineering services, Solid waste management

It’s safe to say that green consulting engineering services is nothing short of a modern day necessity. With climate change becoming a grim reality of the time, attendees of the United Nations Climate Change Summit (2018) have highlighted the steps they need to take to ensure that the future generations can sustain life on this planet.

But saying that a change is needed and actually implementing these changes are two different things altogether. Join us as we discuss whether or not green engineering is sustainable from a financial point of view.

Green Engineering for the Automotive Industry:

With the industrial revolution came large industries and factories that could efficiently do the job of thousands of employees at once. While this undisputedly led to the recent advancements we’ve seen over the ages, it came at the price of the environment – a price that no one is willing to pay.

Let’s take the automotive industry for example. We’ve all heard the news that Tesla has revolutionized how people perceive electric cars (and that’s mostly true) but what’s even more impressive is the approach the company has adopted.

It’s an open secret that even though electric cars are environmentally friendly and they save me, manufacturers shied away from them because they couldn’t reach high speeds. Tesla looked at this statistic and challenged it with its Model S which boasts a 0-60 mph of just 2.5 seconds!

This just goes to show that green engineering doesn’t have to come at the price of quality and that green engineering is just as financially feasible as our traditional approach.

Industry Leaders Investing in Green Technology:

If you want to predict the future of an industry, a good rule of thumb is to see what moves its leaders are making today. If we apply this logic to most industries then it becomes increasingly clear that green engineering is the way to go.

Not only are big players like Starbucks, Google, and Amazon making strides to reduce their emissions and conserve energy, but they’re applying the green philosophy of reduce, reuse and recycle to nearly all facets of their business.

Furthermore, given the fact that the press reserves the right to criticize companies actively contributing to climate change, company CEOs and think tanks know that they will be held accountable for every decision they make. This is why many companies are actively trying to reduce their carbon emissions and eradicate wastages so that their brand image remains untarnished.

Benefitting from the Green Philosophy:

For the longest time, businesses operated under the “at all costs” mentality, which basically meant that they didn’t care about the effects of their actions on the environment in the long run. Thankfully, this sentiment has almost completely been abandoned as all major industry leaders are trying to preserve the environment.

This change in approach is evident in the grass root level as engineering students are taught about serious environmental issues and the importance of green engineering is more or less etched into their minds.
